We build, replace, repair and refinish decks in the Town of Amherst and the towns around it, on a housing stock where most decks are already on their second life. What follows is how we work, and what we will not claim.
What you can expect from a quote from us
A written quote off real measurements, and a straight answer about whether the deck you already have is worth saving. Those two things cover most of what goes wrong between homeowners and deck contractors. We measure rather than price off a photograph. We price the tear-out as its own line so you can see what it costs. And we put the footing depth question to the Amherst Building Department instead of repeating a number off somebody else's website. If probing your structure says a repair is honest, that is what we quote. If it says the ledger or the footings have gone, you will hear that instead.
Which details never show up in a photo?
Almost everything that decides whether a deck lasts thirty years is buried under the boards or hidden behind the ledger. Nobody photographs a footing. Nobody posts a picture of joist tape. That is still where the money should go, and it is where we are willing to be judged.

The housing stock we work on
Amherst has roughly 56,000 occupied homes and about 72 percent of them are owner-occupied, on a median build year of 1970. Snyder and Eggertsville run older, closer in toward Buffalo, where plenty of the houses are brick or stone faced. Getzville, East Amherst and Swormville carry the newer growth out toward the Clarence line.
That spread means two fairly different jobs. On the older streets it is mostly replacement, repair, and disposing of pre-2004 treated lumber properly. On the newer ones it is more often a first composite conversion, or a roof going over a deck whose frame is still perfectly sound underneath it.
